View Suspended – Shanghai

View Suspended is an installation piece by Dutch artist Paul Veroude. It was presented at the Shanghai Motor Show in 2005, and again at the British International Motor Show in 2006.

Each of the 3200 parts of the Formula 1 car is suspended on a fine wire to produce a 3D ‘exploded diagram’ that allows race fans the chance to get closer than ever to the engineering secrets of the world’s most technically-advanced sport.

“The installation produced the effect of a car that has just exploded all of its parts a fraction of a second earlier, before being frozen in time. It managed to successfully combine engineering and sculpture to create a stunning and innovative physical entity. Although it was transformed into an art form, the racing car displayed still remained entirely representative of modern-day Formula 1 technology.” – Artwise
