A double bill of linked one-act operas – La Cucina by Andrew Synnott and Adina by Gioachino Rossini. Presented at Wexford Festival Opera in the 2019 season.
La Cucina was a Wexford Festival Opera commission with a libretto by Rosetta Cucchi, set in a kitchen wherein a cake is baked which, greatly enlarged, becomes the setting for Adina.
“Directing both pieces, Rosetta Cucchi’s production was certainly impressive in capturing the whole tone of the Rossini philosophy of living life to the full. The stage was filled with extras, all bringing little side-shows of humour, Alfredo the master chef ever-present to emphasise the connections between Adina and La Cucina… life’s a big cake and you just have to eat it, and why not add some special icing sugar on top. You can’t get too much of that.” – Keris Nine, OperaJournal, 8 November 2019
