Safari
In 1988
I spent a week at Singapore Zoo working on the master plan
for an innovative new leisure attraction - a zoo which
would open only at night.
Detailed
design work on the S$60M project started in 1989, and we
opened Night Safari, the world's first nocturnal zoo, in
1994. The project has received millions of visitors and
many international tourism awards.
40
hectares of secondary rainforest, carefully illuminated to
create a natural experience with good animal visibility;
3km of road for open-sided trams; 2.5km of trail for
pedestrians; restaurants and lodges.
I
continue to work for Night Safari on a new amphitheatre,
and Singapore Zoological Gardens on their new entrance
plaza.
