Association of Lighting designers
The professional association for lighting designers - I write a regular column in Focus, the monthly journal of the association. Website includes the ALD professional directory - the best place to find a lighting designer (if I'm too busy).

Professional Lighting and Sound Association
Trade organisation for suppliers of equipment and services - leading on the development of standards for entertainment technology - most UK suppliers and manufacturers are members of PLASA, and the website directory is a very handy place to look up contact details for companies. PLASA publish Lighting & Sound International, and present the PLASA show in London every autumn.

Society of British Theatre Designers
Professional association for stage and lighting designers. The website has a good gallery of members work, and contacts for designers, agents and so-on.

Production Services Association
Association of individuals and companies working backstage in the concert and event industry. Actively involved in the development of health and safety standards.

Association of British Theatre Technicians
Information and professional body for backstage workers, lots of useful data on the web site, working hard on backstage safety.

United States Institute of Theatre Technology
Association of design, production and technology professionals. A useful insight to life on the wrong side of the Atlantic. USITT is involved in the development of technical standards.
